11:1 At that time all the people
had
one language
and
a common purpose.
11:2 Then some travelled eastward
and
found a valley in
and
there they settled.
11:3 They said to one another:
Let’s
make bricks
and
bake them completely.
So
they used brick instead of stone
and
used tar for mortar.
11:4 Then they said:
Let’s
build a city
with
a tower top that reaches the sky
to
make a name for ourselves.
Otherwise
we will be
spread
all over the land.
11:5 But Yahweh looked down
to
and the tower the people were building.
11:6 And Yahweh declared:
If
the people are united
and
speak the same language
have
begun to do this
nothing
they plan to do
will
be impossible.
11:7 Let us go down
and
mix their language
so
they won’t understand each other.
11:8 Because of Yahweh
they
became spread out
throughout
all the land
and
stopped building the city.
11:9 Thus it was named
because
there Yahweh mixed
the
language of the whole land.
Thus
Yahweh spread them out
throughout
the lands of the region.
